The Challenge of Sourcing Quality Coffee

Finding good coffee beans shouldn't be this difficult. Local suppliers often carry the same limited selection, while importing directly means dealing with minimums you can't meet, paperwork you don't understand, and quality you can't verify until it's too late.

Maybe you've tried working with overseas suppliers and found the communication frustrating or the logistics overwhelming. Or perhaps you're stuck serving beans that are fine but nothing special, knowing your customers would appreciate something more distinctive if you could just access it reliably.

The problem isn't that exceptional coffees don't exist in the region. Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand all produce remarkable beans. But connecting with the right producers, ensuring consistent quality, and managing the import process requires expertise and relationships most cafés don't have time to develop.

What coffee shop owners tell us about sourcing:

  • "I want to offer something special but can't import small quantities"
  • "The local distributor's selection is the same as everyone else's"
  • "I tried importing once and the quality wasn't what I expected"
  • "My customers ask about origin stories but I don't have good answers"

How Our Curation Service Works

We've spent years building relationships with producers and cooperatives across Asia-Pacific. These connections let us access coffees that would be difficult for individual cafés to source, then verify their quality before bringing them to Malaysia.

Each coffee in our selection has been cupped multiple times, evaluated for consistency, and confirmed to meet the standards we'd serve in our own shops. We provide you with comprehensive information about each offering, from growing conditions to recommended brewing parameters, so you can talk confidently with customers.

Quality Verification

We sample and evaluate every lot before it becomes available, ensuring consistency with what we promised.

Import Management

We handle customs, documentation, and logistics so beans arrive fresh and ready without you managing the process.

Complete Information

Detailed tasting notes, origin stories, and brewing recommendations help you present each coffee properly.

Your Journey with Bean Curation

1

Discovery Consultation

We discuss your current offerings, customer preferences, and what you're hoping to achieve with better sourcing. This helps us understand which origins and profiles would work well for your menu. We can also provide samples of current selections to start your exploration.

2

Initial Selection

Based on our conversation, we recommend 2-3 coffees to start with. These typically include a reliable foundational offering alongside something more distinctive to differentiate your menu. You decide the split that makes sense for your volume and variety goals.

3

Regular Shipments

Monthly deliveries ensure you maintain fresh stock without tying up too much capital in inventory. Each shipment includes updated information on the current lot, as coffee characteristics can vary slightly between harvests. We notify you of any significant changes before shipping.

4

Quarterly Discovery

Every few months, we send sample packs of new or seasonal offerings for you to evaluate. This keeps your menu interesting while giving you control over when and what to introduce. There's no pressure to change what's working, but the option is always available.

Transparent, Straightforward Pricing

$22 USD
per kilogram (varies by origin)
20kg minimum monthly commitment

Pricing reflects the origin, processing method, and complexity of the coffee. Higher-quality or more exotic offerings cost more than foundational blends, but everything is priced transparently with no hidden fees. What you see is what you pay.

What's Included in Every Kilogram:

  • All import duties and customs fees
  • Quality verification and sampling
  • Delivery to your location in Klang Valley
  • Storage until you're ready for shipment
  • Detailed tasting notes
  • Origin stories and producer information
  • Brewing recommendations
  • Ongoing sourcing consultation

Understanding the 20kg Minimum:

This threshold lets us maintain viable import economics while keeping your inventory manageable. For most cafés, 20kg represents roughly 2-3 weeks of coffee at moderate volume, which means fresh beans without excessive storage concerns.

You can split this across multiple origins. For example, 10kg of your foundational blend and 10kg of a seasonal offering, or 15kg of one coffee and 5kg of another for limited availability. We work with your actual usage patterns.

How This Service Benefits Your Business

Our curation service has supported cafés ranging from small specialty shops to established kopitiams looking to expand their offerings. The value comes from removing obstacles that previously made regional sourcing impractical for businesses your size.

The relationship develops over time. Initially, we guide you toward coffees we're confident will work. As we learn your preferences and customer responses, recommendations become increasingly tailored to your specific context.

Our Quality Commitment

Quality consistency matters in this business. We've built our reputation on delivering what we promise, which means being upfront about both capabilities and limitations.

What We Stand Behind:

  • Quality Verification: If a shipment doesn't meet the quality standards we promised, we replace it or credit your account. No arguments, no long explanations needed.
  • Transparent Communication: If there are delays, quality variations between lots, or supply constraints, we tell you immediately rather than hoping you won't notice.
  • Flexible Commitments: The 20kg monthly minimum is required to maintain the service, but you can adjust which coffees or pause deliveries with reasonable notice during slow periods.
  • No Lock-In: While we hope to build long-term relationships, you're not bound to annual contracts. If the service doesn't work for you after a few months, you can stop with one month's notice.

We want this to be a partnership that makes your coffee program stronger. If it's not serving that purpose, there's no point in either of us continuing just for the sake of it.

Starting Your Sourcing Partnership

Get in touch to discuss your current sourcing situation and what you're hoping to achieve. We can arrange sample tastings of our current selections or simply talk through how the service works in more detail.
